If the TPS is all the way clockwise, the upshift seems fine but it makes the downshifts more clunky and off, also the check engine light comes on after taking my foot off the accellerator pedal then turns off after i step on the pedal.

No matter how the TPS is rotated the Idle seems fine, it just appears to affect the transmissions shifting pattern.

Mine is currently positioned so all the shifts feel fine and the check engine light does not come on. Which may be somewhere around the middle of the adjustment range.

Drove from Sydney to Wollongong and back yesterday, all the shifts felt fine. I thought my clunky downshifts were from ATF overheating possibly, now im thinking maybe it was just incorrect TPS adjustment...
This situation does seem to confirm my overall thoughts.

Although I do not recall moving the TPS all the way to either extremity(only part either way from memory) when I was experimenting with the transmission operation on my Nissan R 31 Skyline )- (3 wire TPS not 4 wire as per Mitsubishi 3rd gen. Magna) about 10 years ago(and not needing any further adjustments in the intervening 5 years of ownership once I felt I had got it "right")it is worthy of further investigation.

Just one self done fluid change with Penrite MHF semi-synthetic ATF and later a home fitted second hand transmission cooler provided a very happy and positively operating transmission(in addition to the other non-transmission related refurbishment work) over about 50,000km of (leadfooted)use after the time when I initially inherited a very sadly performing car.

That's why my former used car yard owner employer had given it to me for free, as to him, it was just worthy for parts/wrecking.

I am looking forward to receiving the reply from the proprietor of DS Jones Automatics about this matter.

+1 to Metzger for the feedback.
